Obama wouldn’t be president if Michelle was white

I normally don’t like getting into these hypothetical race discussions, but this one is very telling: If Obama had fallen in love with a woman that looked more like his own mother, he may not have sniffed the Democratic Convention in 2004, much less received enough votes to become president back in November.
It’s no secret that people still have strong feelings against interracial marriage — specifically between a white and black person. We’ve obviously come far in these past hundred or so years where it was against the law to …

TBS rewards Tyler Perry’s weak buffoonery

I’m not even going to try and hide it that I’m hatin’ on the guy. He’s incredibly successful at what he does and has made a ton of money in the process. This isn’t necessarily a knock on Tyler Perry the man, but just these incredibly wack TV shows that TBS is promoting like they’re the funniest thing since Afro Ninja.
I’ve seen a couple of his movies and they were actually pretty funny but that’s got nothing to do with the fact that these two TV shows — House of …

How far does a ‘black web browser’ set us back?

This almost seems like something you’d see on Chappelle’s Show and it would be absolutely hilarious if it wasn’t actually true.
It’s always nice to know there are people out there that view all people with darker skin as one homogenous blob of ‘blackness’. Aren’t we taking this overgeneralizing thing just a little too far when you start to talk about a web browser that is tailored for folks within a pretty broad range of skin pigmentation? It’s as if they’re saying every person with darker skin would be able to …

The link between O.J. and Emmett Till

This whole O.J. saga came to a sad end last week, no matter how you look at it. Whether you hate the guy, or think he got a raw deal with his sentencing, it’s still an awful story for everyone involved. O.J. going to jail for however many years isn’t going to bring Nicole Brown or Ron Goldman back, so it’s not as if O.J. detractors should celebrate this as some sort of ‘victory’. That said, I’d like to go on record to say that the man probably belongs in …

The significance of Obama’s race

This is mainly in response to a friend’s blog post at Le Blog de Doruk Akan, but I’ve heard similar talk from others regarding this past presidential election.
If you know me at all, I’m the last person to really care about the race of another person, but in this instance, even I recognize the historical significance of what just happened: The majority of this country voted in favor of electing a black man as their leader.
This country has been race-obsessed for so long now, that for a lot of people, …

Blacks should be ashamed of voting against gay rights

Here we are almost a week after one of the most incredible moments in human history, and I’m finding out that about 70% of black folks in California voted in favor of a ban on gay marriage.
Seriously, if anyone ever needs the perfect example of what it means to be a complete HYPOCRITE, just remember this.
Let’s see if I have this straight: Blacks folks fight for hundreds of years just so they can be treated like normal human beings, and now that we’re finally able to see the the light …

I went to the Camden County NAACP Freedom Fund Awards Banquet last Friday night to honor my father who was being given a Vision Award for his work in the home building industry. Everything went very well, but as much as you think you have a handle on where society is nowadays with race, you never know what to expect walking into an NAACP function with a white fiance.
The honorees were expected to give about a three minute speech after they received their award, and a couple of them (my …

There are two sides to every story. We have not yet found a universal method to effectively discern who is more truthful than the other. Some people go with their ‘gut’ or their ‘feeling’, while others try and compare facts and come to a logical point by point analysis of what each has said. Either way, we still can’t be 100% certain that either is telling the truth, even if one person admits to lying–after all, he could be lying about that as well. We can only judge who is …

Since everyone is so caught up in labels, I figure I’d try and coin a couple myself:

Homoracial (n.) – Of, relating to, or having a racial orientation to persons of the same race. Someone who practices homoraciality; having a sexual attraction to persons of the same race.
Heteroracial (n.) – Of, relating to, or having a racial orientation to persons of other races. Someone who practices heteroraciality; having a sexual attraction to persons of different races.
Panracial (n.) – Of, relating to, or having a racial orientation to persons of any race. …

I’ll do this the slow way so everyone can understand this, even for you small bus folks:

I belong to the human species (homo sapiens sapiens). Not that the compulsion would ever exist, but it’s informative to know that sex between me and a Christmas Tree will not result in a baby with two legs and pine needles for hair. Science doesn’t work that way, and we are able to separate species essentially along these lines of possible reproduction.
I am a male. This means something to me because it helps to …
